Inventory and Volunteer Assistant
Room to Grow New York

The​ ​Inventory​ ​and​ ​Volunteer​ ​Assistant is a part time, 20 hour a week position that​ ​supports​ ​the​ ​Site​ ​Coordinator​ ​in​ ​overseeing​ ​the​ ​distribution​ ​of material​ ​goods​ ​to​ ​enrolled​ ​Room​ ​to​ ​Grow​ ​families​ ​and​ ​managing​ ​volunteer​ ​groups​ ​that​ ​check,​ ​sort,​ ​and organize​ ​the​ ​inventory.​ ​The​ ​ideal​ ​team​ ​member​ ​is​ ​vibrant,​ ​incredibly​ ​detail​ ​oriented,​ ​and​ ​an​ ​independant worker,​ ​whose​ ​role​ ​includes​ ​ensuring​ ​the​ ​flow​ ​of​ ​inventory​ ​from​ ​donation​ ​to​ ​distribution​ ​remains​ ​smooth and​ ​timely.​ ​This​ ​requires​ ​the​ ​ability​ ​to​ ​think​ ​on​ ​one's​ ​feet​ ​and​ ​anticipate​ ​the​ ​unexpected.​ ​This​ ​position reports​ ​to​ ​the​ ​Site​ ​Coordinator​ ​and​ ​collaborates​ ​with​ ​the​ ​Program​ ​Associate,​ ​External​ ​Relations Associate,​ ​and​ ​External​ ​Relations​ ​Coordinator​ ​as​ ​needed.

Responsibilities​ ​include,​ ​but​ ​are​ ​not​ ​limited​ ​to:

  • Oversee​ ​the​ ​flow​ ​of​ ​inventory​ ​from​ ​donation​ ​intake​ ​through​ ​to​ ​client​ ​distribution
    • Collaborate​ ​with​ ​the​ ​Program​ ​Associate​ ​to​ ​hone​ ​receiving​ ​process​ ​of​ ​in-kind​ ​donations
    • Assist​ ​donors​ ​with​ ​curbside​ ​drop-offs
    • Maintain​ ​high​ ​level​ ​of​ ​quality​ ​for​ ​all​ ​accepted​ ​items
  • Restocking​ ​and​ ​organization​ ​of​ ​the​ ​boutique​ ​space
    • Ensure​ ​all​ ​"must​ ​have"​ ​items​ ​are​ ​in​ ​stock,​ ​alerting​ ​the​ ​Site​ ​Coordinator​ ​of​ ​any​ ​shortages before​ ​they​ ​happen
    • Regularly​ ​check​ ​and​ ​restock​ ​the​ ​clothing​ ​bins​ ​as​ ​needed
  • Organization​ ​of​ ​the​ ​overstock/volunteer​ ​space
    • Properly​ ​label​ ​and​ ​store​ ​all​ ​overstock​ ​items
    • Prepare​ ​items​ ​for​ ​and​ ​receive​ ​from​ ​off-site​ ​storage​ ​location
    • Creatively​ ​problem​ ​solve​ ​issues​ ​as​ ​they​ ​arise,​ ​always​ ​keeping​ ​RtG​ ​mission​ ​at​ ​forefront
  • Lead​ ​volunteer​ ​sessions
    • Welcome​ ​volunteer​ ​groups​ ​to​ ​the​ ​Family​ ​Center,​ ​introduce​ ​them​ ​to​ ​RtG​ ​program,​ ​and oversee​ ​checking​ ​and​ ​sorting​ ​projects​ ​1-3x​ ​a​ ​week
    • Provide​ ​orientation​ ​and​ ​supervision​ ​to​ ​ensure​ ​all​ ​volunteers​ ​are​ ​following​ ​proper procedures
    • Build​ ​relationships​ ​with​ ​volunteers​ ​to​ ​encourage​ ​further​ ​engagement​ ​with​ ​RtG

Qualifications:

  • Excellent​ ​written​ ​and​ ​verbal​ ​communications​ ​skills​ ​and​ ​attention​ ​to​ ​detail.
  • Display​ ​professionalism​ ​and​ ​a​ ​high​ ​level​ ​of​ ​customer​ ​service​ ​at​ ​all​ ​times.
  • Enthusiastic,​ ​engaging,​ ​and​ ​positive​ ​attitude.
  • Superb​ ​time​ ​management​ ​and​ ​organizational​ ​skills,​ ​including​ ​ability​ ​to​ ​work​ ​independently​ ​while contributing​ ​to​ ​the​ ​success​ ​of​ ​the​ ​team.
  • Ability​ ​to​ ​multitask​ ​and​ ​work​ ​well​ ​under​ ​pressure​ ​in​ ​a​ ​highly​ ​dynamic​ ​environment.
  • A​ ​skilled​ ​public​ ​speaker​ ​who​ ​is​ ​confident​ ​leading​ ​groups​ ​of​ ​up​ ​to​ ​18​ ​volunteers.
  • Ability​ ​to​ ​interact​ ​and​ ​connect​ ​with​ ​a​ ​range​ ​of​ ​individuals​ ​including​ ​clients,​ ​students,​ ​high-level donors,​ ​and​ ​Board​ ​members.
  • Effective​ ​listening​ ​skills​ ​with​ ​intellectual​ ​curiosity,​ ​honesty,​ ​and​ ​sense​ ​of​ ​levity.
  • Able​ ​to​ ​commit​ ​to​ ​a​ ​set​ ​schedule​ ​including​ ​1-2​ ​Saturdays​ ​a​ ​month.
  • Can​ ​lift​ ​and​ ​carry​ ​up​ ​to​ ​45​ ​pounds.

Education/Experience:

  • 1-2​ ​years​ ​of​ ​working​ ​experience​ ​in​ ​customer​ ​service​ ​and/or​ ​social​ ​service​ ​setting
  • HS​ ​Diploma/GED;​ ​B.A.​ ​or​ ​B.S.​ ​a​ ​plus
  • Excellent​ ​computer​ ​skills,​ ​knowledge​ ​of​ ​Salesforce​ ​or​ ​other​ ​CRM​ ​software,​ ​and​ ​merchandising experience​ ​with​ ​inventory​ ​tracking​ ​are​ ​big​ ​pluses

Compensation:

Development, Communications and Inventory Internships
Room to Grow Boston

Room to Grow seeks summer interns interested in nonprofit management, programmatic operations, development, and communications. We will provide interns with a meaningfulexperience and hands-on training. We are looking for hard workers with a positive attitude and good organizational skills who are excited about helping families in need. Data analysis, social media, and/or graphic design skills a plus. Our goal is to provide a varied and broad-based experience across all functions of the organization. 

Responsibilities and activities include:

  • Support the inventory and volunteer program by working with volunteers, processing in-kind donations, stocking inventory, and helping to keep our family center space looking like a children's boutique.
  • Provide Fundraising/Development support by researching funding opportunities and assisting with grants and donor management.
  • Assist with social media, graphic design, and overall communications.
  • Provide database management support.
  • Provide event planning support.

Time Commitment:
Opportunities available during the summer (20 hours/week) and for the spring semester (8-12 hours/week).
