Hispanic Heritage Month: Celebrating Culture, Building Futures

Every child deserves a strong start in life so that they can thrive long into the future. From September 15 to October 15, we join communities across the country in honoring Hispanic Heritage Month — a time to celebrate the histories, contributions, and rich cultural identities of Latinx and Hispanic families.

At Room to Grow, this celebration holds special meaning: one-third of the families in our program identify as Latinx/Hispanic, and many participate in Spanish or bilingually. Access to culturally relevant resources, from Spanish-language books to toys that reflect heritage, helps parents support their children’s development while raising children who are confident, curious, and proud of who they are.

Why Culturally Rooted Support Matters

Representation is more than symbolic — it is essential for child development and family well-being. When children see their language and culture reflected in the books they read or the toys they play with, they develop a stronger sense of belonging and identity.

Too often, Spanish-speaking families are shut out of early childhood support systems due to language barriers. At Room to Grow, we are working to change that by offering bilingual support, providing Spanish-language resources, and creating an environment where families feel respected, heard, and cared for.

How You Can Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with Room to Grow

This month, you can honor Hispanic heritage and directly support families by ensuring they have access to resources that reflect their culture and language.

Here are four ways to get involved:

  1. Donate Spanish-language books through our Amazon Wish List for Boston and Amazon Wish List for New York.

  2. Donate culturally relevant toys through our Amazon Wish List for Boston and Amazon Wish List for New York.

  3. Host a collection drive with your workplace, community group, or friends to gather books and toys that celebrate heritage.

  4. Make a gift to support our bilingual programming and ensure families have the tools they need year-round.

Meeting Families Where They Are

As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we also celebrate the resilience, traditions, and joy that families bring to our community. By investing in culturally relevant resources, we can make more families feel seen, valued, and supported — one caregiver, one child, and one story at a time.

Join us in celebrating heritage, uplifting families, and ensuring more children have a strong start in life.
